Desert Spice hand blended dip-dressing-tater topper mixes, rubs, and seasoning salts are full-flavored blends made from pure and natural ingredients.  We use no MSG, no preservatives, no fillers, and no anti-clumping agents...only fresh, gourmet quality spices and herbs from around the world.

Dip ~ Dressing ~ “Tater Topper” Mixes 

Desert Spice dips and tater toppers are full-flavored dry mixes.  You make them fresh by adding 1 tablespoon of mix to 1/2 cup mayo and 1/2 cup sour cream.  Be sure to refrigerate for at least 1-2 hours before serving to give the flavors time to develop.  Make them a day ahead for the fullest flavor.  For a milder flavor, decrease mayo and increase sour cream by 1/4 cup each, or use sour cream only.  Try a tablespoon of mix in 8 oz. whipped cream cheese for a savory cracker spread.

Desert Spice Ranch flavors are great for salads or as dipping sauce for your favorite finger foods.  They are also an interesting alternative for moistening chicken or onion rings before dredging with flour for frying.  Try mixing Garlic Ranch flavor in with mashed potatoes.  Use all Ranch flavors on baked potatoes, as a veggie dip, or as a tangy sandwich spread.  Try as an alternative to ketchup for french fries.  For dressing, substitute 1/4 cup of buttermilk for 1/4 cup of the sour cream.

We named them “tater toppers” because they are a flavorful alternative to plain sour cream on baked potatoes.  Also try them as a substitute with any food where sour cream or yogurt are used as a base.  Health Tip:  A baked potato with no butter, topped with dip mix/tater topper prepared with low fat or imitation mayo and sour cream is a nutritious low fat side dish.  Dill-flavored mix is a delicious stand-in for tartar sauce, or in seafood or tuna salads.  All flavors are an outstanding choice for dunking raw veggies, chicken strips, fries, onion rings, or any other of your favorite finger foods.

Desert Spice rubs may be used as either dry or moist rubs.  Use as little as one tablespoon of rub per pound of meat.  If more intense flavor is desired, or for gamier meats such as lamb or venison, use two or more tablespoons per pound. 

To use dry, simply pat meat dry with paper towels, then rub the spice mixture onto surface of meat before cooking.  To use moist, mix with equal parts of olive or vegetable oil to form a paste prior to applying rub.  In either case, apply the rub at least 30 minutes prior to cooking, and better yet, the night before.  

When grilling with rubs, cook on a slow grill with indirect heat, or pre-cook in the oven, then grill for the flame flavor.  Cooking over direct flame or very hot coals will produce a less flavorful result, as much of the rub will burn off.    Prep Tip:  When packaging meat for the freezer, apply the rub before wrapping and freezing, and label with the cut of meat and the flavor of rub used.   

Always apply rub to thawed meat, and rub into all sides of meat.

Rubs are also a tasty addition when roasting or grilling potatoes or any other vegetable.  Just drizzle a couple of tablespoons of oil over cut veggies, sprinkle with rub, and toss prior to cooking.  Try them dry as seasoning for popcorn or fries.

Seasoning Salts & Blends

Desert Spice Seasoning Salt, adds zip to any dish where regular salt and pepper are used.  Use sparingly at first; remember these are “salts”.  May be used as seasoning for cooking, and as a table seasoning. The blend of spices and peppers is a natural and tasty alternative to commercial season salts, with no sugar or MSG, and no anti-clumping agents.  If clumping occurs, give it a shake in a jar, or pulse a few times in the food processor.
